Starting the program for the first time
Before You Begin:
You will have to have a HermeTech account even to activate a DEMO license. If you don't have an account you can visit our website to create one. See How To Buy if you need to purchase a license and see Upgrades if you need to Upgrade an existing license.
Online Activation: DEMO License
If an internet connection is unavailable or restricted see Manual Activation.

Activation Window (Create a Demo License)
When you start the application for the first time you will be presented with the Activation window so that you can set up the license you will be using.
To activate a DEMO license (see Licenses and Pricing) you have to use online activation. You enter your HermeTech Customer ID (email address) or Account Number in the Logon ID field, your HermeTech Account Password in the Password field and click the Activate Your License button. It should be as simple as that!
DEMO License Restrictions
A DEMO license is only good for 30 days from the date that you activate it. A DEMO license also has the same restrictions as the DEVELOPER license in that it CANNOT install or run the CORE HL7 MS SQL Schema Engine Windows Services and all Schema Profiles must be Run Locally.

Online Activation: Permanent License

Your Initial Presentation
To activate a permanent license (see Licenses and Pricing), you check Activate a Permanent License, select which type of permanent license you own (there are 3 different types), then enter your HermeTech Customer ID (email address) or Account Number in the Logon ID field, your HermeTech Account Password in the Password field and click the Activate Your License button. It should be as simple as that!
A quick note about the Your Note field. This field is a short description of the installation. It can be whatever you like and always will default to Computer: <computername>. The Your Note field becomes very important if you plan to have several licenses for this product distributed across multiple computers. We have customers who own hundreds of licenses for our products and the Your Note field allows both YOU and US to identify a specific installation or license. SO you should enter a value here which makes sense to you, whether it's something simple like "John's Laptop" or some other value that will allow you to pick it out of what we hope will be a very long list of successful installations. This value will be visible in your HermeTech Account in the CORE HL7 License Manager software.

Your Next Step: Creating Schema Profiles
To perform a Manual (offline) activation you will need 3 things:
1.The CORE HL7 MS SQL Schema Engine installed on the computer / server of your choice.
2.The CORE HL7 License Manager software installed on a computer / server which both HAS internet access and allows you to log in to the License Manager software.
3.You must own a qualifying license which is available to be activated (See How To Buy).

Step 1: Create the Activation Request
Step 1: Create a license activation request by clicking the Get Activation Request button. The activation request is just a blob of text which is placed on the MS Windows Clipboard allowing you to proceed to step 2.
Step 2: Transfer the activation request (either via the clipboard OR you can paste it into Notepad and create a text file) to the computer where you are logged into the CORE HL7 License Manager software (see below).

Step 3. Choose Which License
Step 3: In the License Manager software choose which license you want to activate. In the screenshot above there are 3 different qualifying licenses. The CORE HL7 MS SQL Schema Engine (Professional), CORE HL7 MS SQL Schema Engine (Developer), and CORE HL7API (Enterprise), see Licenses and Pricing for more information on how licenses work. Once you have chosen which license you need click the Activate button and proceed to step 4.

Step 4. Activate Your License
Step 4: Bring in the license activation request you created in Step 1 by clicking whichever button is appropriate for how you brought your license activation request (either via the Clipboard, or in a text file). IF that is successful the Activate Your License button will become activated and you see some computer information appear in the middle section. Enter the Your Note field (this can be important see Online Activation above for more information). and then click Activate Your License. The license will be created on our web servers and you can proceed to step 5.

Step 5. Choose the License To Retrieve
Step 5: After your license has been created you will be able to see it in the Installations tab when you select the product in the Your Products section. You will note that the Your Note field will match whatever you entered in Step 4. Click the Help button next to the license you want to retireve and proceed on to step 6.

Step 6a. Click Retrieve the License key from my account

Step 6b. Retrieve the License Activation Key
Step 6: Clicking Retrieve the License key from my account will bring up screenshot 6b. Here you just click Download the License Activation Key, you will see the middle portion of the window populate with the blob of XML and the Export To File and Copy To Clipboard buttons will become enabled. Click whichever of those buttons is appropriate for taking the License Activation Key BACK to the computer / server we started in with step 1. We can then perform the final act, step 7.

Step 7. Import the License and Activate
Step 7: After bringing the license activation key to the server just click whichever button is appropriate. If you just transferred the key on the Clipboard click I have a valid license on the Clipboard I need to import. If you brought the key over in a text file click I have a valid license file that I need to import.
And voila, your license has been activated.
