Common Issues

 

Clients Cannot Connect to the HL7 Listener. Try these steps:

 

•Make sure that your Listener Session has started and is 'Listening' (See Receiving Messages).

•Verify that you have entered the Port Number correctly in the Main Window.

•If the client is connecting from a remote computer, verify that they are using the correct TCP/IP address. If so have them try doing a PING from a command prompt. If they cannot PING your IP address, their HL7 Sender definitely won't be able to connect and send you HL7 messages.

•If you have tried and eliminated the above, verify that there are no firewall issues blocking the TCP/IP traffic either on your end OR on their end then verify that you can send HL7 messages to the Ad Hoc HL7 Listener from within the same computer. You can use a program like our FREE UltraPort Ad Hoc HL7 Sender to do this.

 

My Listener Session Shows No Results.

 

•Look in the Trace Window of the Listener Session Window. Were there any messages actually delivered? Results are only compiled if you receive messages.

•IF your Trading Partner says that they are sending messages to you but you see no messages coming in, verify the TCP/IP Envelope settings in the Main Window and make sure that you and your Trading Partner are in sync.

 

HL7 Messages are received but no HL7 Ack returned.

 

•Verify that your Acknowledgement behavior in the Main Window is set to either Automatic or Always.

•Next determine if the Sender was expecting a HL7 ACK message. In the Results Grid you can see a check box which indicates whether a HL7 ACK was expected based on the contents of the MSH segment of the message (Or if you selected Always in the Main Window).

•If the Ad Hoc Listener indicates that there WAS an ACK delivered and the client insists that there was not you may have to employ a 3rd party IP traffic tracer like Wire Shark to verify the TCP/IP traffic in and out of your computer.

•Verify that the message received was not flagged as Malformed. Acknowledgements are NOT returned on Malformed messages.
