Filtering Messages in the Main Window
If you have a lot of HL7 messages open you may want to filter them down to identify HL7 messages with specific data properties or to reduce your message store to a more manageable size. To do this click the Filter button on the toolbar. You will have the choice of either using a Quick Filter (a single Matching Instruction) or an
Extended Filter (a Search Script).
Creating a Quick Filter
Click Quick Filter and bring up the Edit a Matching Instruction window.

Simple Matching Instruction
Enter your matching criteria. If you examine the screenshot above you can see what it is doing:
•For the PID (Patient Identification) Segment.
•Field #5, Component #1, SubComponent #1 (The Patient Last Name).
•Only Match if that field Value Begins With A or S or G (not Case-Sensitive).
Just click the Ok button to see your results.

Main Window Filtered Results
As you can see our current message store now contains significantly fewer HL7 messages and ALL of them have a Patient Last Name beginning with A or S or G. You can run multiple Quick Queries, each one refining your search more and more with the ability to Undo and try again.
You can Undo up to 5 filter results

Main Window Filtered Results (Undo)
If you have an active filter you can open the Filter dropdown menu on the toolbar and choose:
• Undo. To restore back to the prior version of your message store.
• Filter Report. To show a report of what the current filter is (see below).
